FALK & REAMER EXHIBIT FURNITURE & PHOTOGRAPHY IN CARMEL’S ARTSPLASH GALLERY

An Indiana General Assembly Resolution called for Indiana Artisan to recognize and promote the work of Indiana’s highest-quality art and food artisans. Both photographer Marie Reamer, and furniture maker Peter Falk, have been recognized with the Indiana Artisan title for their exceptional talent and ability.

(July 20, 2015) Handmade furniture and high dynamic range photography will complement each other in downtown Carmel’s ArtSplash Gallery throughout August as two artists recognized by the state for their high-quality work share wall and floorspace.

In 2010, an Indiana General Assembly Resolution called for Indiana Artisan to recognize and promote the work of Indiana’s highest-quality art and food artisans, developing a brand that helps define the state by their work. Both Carmel-based photographer Marie Reamer, and Peter Falk, whose furniture studio is in the Carroll County town of Cutler, have been recognized by the state with the Indiana Artisan title for their exceptional talent and ability.

A world traveler, Reamer recently returned from France with stunning images. Her high dynamic range photography on the ArtSplash Gallery walls accessorizes Falk’s furniture in an exhibit entitled “Art and Architecture of Provence.” Reamer’s image above reflects the Pont Marie, a bridge crossing the Seine in Paris. More images of her work are on her website .

Falk’s handcrafted furniture is created entirely from Indiana hardwoods, and it will furnish the gallery’s floorspace. Falk works with an arborist and local land owners to source logs from storm damaged trees or treetops left by selective logging. At his studio, he mills the logs to lumber, working through every stage of creating beautiful and functional pieces of furniture. Some of the woods featured include walnut, cherry, ash, and catalpa.

His exhibition, entitled “The Art of Seating,” will focus on his use of environmentally friendly finishes on recent work in chairs, stools and benches, with one chair featuring Mother of Pearl inlay. Falk’s website is here.

The exhibit runs Aug. 1 to 30, with an opening reception with the duo on Sat., Aug. 8, from 5 to 9 p.m. in conjunction with the Carmel Gallery Walk. Located in the Carmel Arts & Design District, ArtSplash Gallery is at 111 W. Main St., Suite 140, Carmel, Ind., 46032. Hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wed and Thu, noon to 6 p.m. Fri, noon to 8 p.m. Sat, and 1 – 5 p.m. Sun.
